What Exactly is Intellectual Property

Intellectual property in general is referred to symbols, names, images, and designs used in business and creation of inventions, literary and artistic work.

Intellectual property is divided into two parts:
  1. Copyrights
  2. Industrial Property
Copyrights includes literary and artistic work. For example, writings like poems, novels, plays and artistic work like paintings, photographs, designs and drawings.

Industrial property includes patents, trademarks, inventions, industrial designs, and trade secrets.

In general, intellectual property is used as common term for patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and inventions.

Every country has different intellectual property laws. In some countries like USA, even states also have some variations of those laws.
